Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

Our business phone services use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) which means your calls will be delivered over your broadband connection rather than a copper landline.

If your business has a monitored security system or any service/device that requires a copper landline phone:

  1. Check with your supplier or manufacturer to see if the device will work with our VoIP services. If the supplier cannot guarantee compatibility with our services, you should NOT sign up for our business phone service.

  2. Test that your devices still work once your business phone service is active with us.

  3. Contact the supplier/manufacturer directly if you have any issues with your devices.

Frequent questions

Can I keep my existing landline phone number?

Yes. Just let us know your phone number or numbers when you sign up to one of our phone plans and we will transfer them for you. There is no need to contact your current service provider.

What if I want to keep my existing copper landline?

Simply let us know that you want to keep an existing copper landline phone service. We can switch your broadband over to Nova and leave your landline phone connected with your existing service provider.

You'll need to continue paying your current landline provider for your copper phone connection.

Monitored Security alarms

If you have a monitored security service or any other service/device that requires a copper landline:

  • Check with your supplier or the manufacturer to see if the device will work with our internet and phone services before signing up with us.
  • Test the alarm still works after we've transferred your services.
  • Contact your supplier if you have any issues with the alarm.
Will my VoIP phone work if there is a power outage?

VoIP technology won't work if there is a power outage or other internet disabling event. In the event of a power outage you may not be able to use our service to dial 111. We recommend you keep your mobile phone charged for emergencies (but note that these services can also be subject to other outage issues).
