- These Roaming Additional Terms (“Additional Terms”) apply in addition to our General Terms for Mobile Customers (“General Terms”), as well as the Special Terms of your mobile plan and any other terms and conditions that apply to your use of our Services. If there is any conflict between any of these terms, the Roaming Additional Terms will apply.
- The rates and terms set out below apply to you and you are deemed to have accepted them when you use your Mobile Phone to roam in destinations outside of New Zealand (“NZ”). Worldwide destinations are divided into five Roaming Zones where you will be subject to different rates, terms, and service availability. All rates are in NZ dollars, include GST, and are subject to change. Please check our website for current rates.

Daily Roaming Destinations
- If you’re using your Mobile Phone in selected overseas destinations as set out in the list of Daily Roaming Destinations, you can use mobile data, call or SMS standard mobile or landline numbers in NZ, Australia, or the destination you’re located in (as applicable) for $8 (“Daily Rate”) per day. A day is defined as 00:00 to 23:59 NZ time (“Daily Rate Period”).
- Only your Plan allocation of calls, SMS and/or Data are included in the Daily Rate. Any Add-ons, special rates, promotions or offers are not included in the Daily Rate and may incur additional charges on use overseas.
- Calls and SMS made to any destination other than standard mobile or landline numbers in NZ, Australia, or the destination you’re located in will be charged at the applicable Standard Rates as if you had made the call or sent the SMS from within NZ.
- After 1GB of max speed data has been used within a Daily Rate Period, max speeds reduce to 128Kbps.
- The Daily Rate will be charged to your account automatically when you:
- make a call (including to Voicemail); or
- receive a call (or don’t answer an incoming call that diverts to your Voicemail); or
- send a SMS; or
- use mobile data (including when your phone uses data when apps are operating in the background etc).
- If you don’t want to trigger the Daily Rate while in a Daily Roaming Destination, you should:
- keep your phone switched to flight mode; or
- keep mobile roaming turned off on your phone; or
- turn your phone off entirely.
- If you travel to multiple Daily Roaming Destinations (or from a Daily Roaming Destination to any other overseas destination) within a Daily Rate Period, you will only be charged the Daily Rate once for that Daily Rate Period.
- If you’re roaming in an overseas destination other than a Daily Roaming Destination, different rates will apply to you, as set out below.
Pacific Daily Roaming Destinations
- The terms for Daily Roaming Destinations also apply to Pacific Daily Roaming Destinations, with the exception of clause 7(b). The Daily Rate will not be charged when your phone receives a call in a Pacific Daily Roaming Destination. However, if you let the call go to Voicemail, the Daily Rate will apply.
- In addition, it costs $1.15 per minute to receive calls in Pacific Daily Roaming Destinations. Part minutes are rounded up to the next whole minute.
Roaming Data Pack Destinations
- If you’re using your Mobile Phone in selected overseas destinations as set out in the list of Roaming Data Pack Destinations, and you would like to use mobile data in those destinations, you will need to purchase a Roaming Data Pack.
- Roaming Data Packs are only available in Roaming Data Pack Destinations. When you arrive in a Roaming Data Pack Destination and take your Mobile Phone off flight mode, you should receive a welcome SMS from us. If you do not purchase a Roaming Data Pack, you will not be able to use mobile data in that destination.
- A Roaming Data Pack is valid for 30 days from purchase and you will lose any unused roaming data when this period ends.
- If you use up all of your purchased roaming data and you would like to continue to use data in a Roaming Data Pack Destination, you will need to purchase another Roaming Data Pack.
- A Roaming Data Pack can be used in all Roaming Data Pack Destinations. One Roaming Data Pack can be used across multiple applicable destinations for as long as it is valid.
No Data Destinations
- Data roaming is not available in selected destinations as set out in the list of No Data Destinations. When you arrive in a No Data Destination and take your Mobile Phone off flight mode, you will receive a welcome SMS from us. Calls and SMS will be charged at Casual Roaming Rates as specified in clause 21.
No Service Destinations
- Roaming services are not available in selected overseas destinations as set out in the list of No Service Destinations. When you are in a No Service Destination, you will not be able to use calling, SMS or mobile data functionality on your Mobile Phone with your Nova Energy SIM.
Casual Roaming Rates
- If you’re using your Mobile Phone in selected overseas destinations as set out in the list of Roaming Data Pack Destinations or No Data Destinations, calls or SMS will be charged at our applicable Casual Roaming Rates as specified in clause 21. There is no charge for receiving SMS.
- Casual Roaming call rates apply per minute and part minutes are rounded up to the next whole minute. The following Casual Roaming Rates apply to standard mobile or landline numbers only and exclude calls and SMS to premium and satellite numbers.
$3.45 per minute to call anywhere in the world.
$1.15 per minute to receive any call.
$0.91 per SMS sent to anywhere in the world.
In-flight and Cruise Ship Roaming Rates
- In-flight and Cruise Ship Roaming is only available on selected craft that have roaming equipment installed. Check with your travel provider for routes, destinations and the availability of Roaming. In-flight Roaming services are provided via satellite so you may notice speech delays of up to 3 seconds. Airlines may also restrict the use of In-flight Roaming to reduce cabin noise.
- In-flight and Cruise Ship Roaming Rates apply per minute and part minutes are rounded up to the next whole minute. The following In-flight and Cruise Ship Roaming Rates apply to standard mobile or landline numbers only and exclude calls and SMS to premium and satellite numbers.
$5.05 per minute to call anywhere in the world.
$1.15 per minute to receive any call.
$0.91 per SMS sent to anywhere in the world.
General
- All roaming charges incurred are in addition to your monthly Plan charges and will be billed to the Account responsible for your connection. We will endeavour to capture all roaming charges on the bill following the roaming activity, but this will not always be possible, including where an external network provider is delayed in advising us of roaming activity and where this occurs, charges may appear on a later bill.
- Roaming pricing, destinations, and service availability are all subject to change without notice at any time. Please visit our website to check the latest pricing and destination inclusions that apply to you before you travel.
- We reserve the right to hard steer traffic to certain network providers and add or remove destinations included in Roaming Zones at any time without notice.
- Roaming calls are subject to any maximum call time lengths that our roaming partners may apply to each call made on their network.
- Roaming services are only available within the coverage of each of our overseas roaming partner’s networks. We do our best to select roaming partners that provide quality services to you, but you acknowledge and agree it is not possible for network providers to provide a fault-free service at all times and we will not be responsible for any issues or service failures relating to the provision of roaming services by third party network providers (including disconnection, lack of coverage or the performance of that provider’s network).
- Coverage and services may be adversely affected by radio interference, geographic or atmospheric conditions, outages, maintenance works, over-loading, faults or limitations in your Mobile Phone or the mobile phone or other device of the person with whom you are communicating, faults or other operational difficulties in our roaming partner’s network or any other mobile telecommunications network to which that network (or our network) is connected, or other circumstances or factors not wholly in our control. This means you may not receive all of the services in all areas all of the time.
- Coverage and services can also change as our roaming partners continue to manage, build, develop and improve their networks.
- We reserve the right to make changes to these Additional Terms at any time, if required by law or for security or technical reasons.
